People ask me why portrait? Why black and white?

I believe that people judge before they really take time to see!

Hope

Imagine a colour portrait. What do you see before you really see?

Blue eyes, that you maybe don't like!

A skin colour, that you maybe don't like!

Or a black pullover, that you maybe don't like!

And because of all of this ,,don't like,, you maybe decide to not like it, without really taking time to analyze the picture!

Hope

Now,

Imagine a black and white portrait!

You take time to find out, with colour the eyes might have!

to find out, about the skin colour!

to find out, about the colour of the pullover!

Maybe after focusing on it, you decide to not like it,

but for sure you took your time to analyze the picture and to make a decision without any judgement!

I am fascinated by portrait photography.

The face, so small and little compared to the rest of the body and yet no one look's same. Every one's portrait is unique,

the nose, the eyes, the lips,... You can see emotions, love, hate, stories,..

That's my fascination for portrait.

My name is Edward Nelson Sardiñas Viciedo and I am a black and white portrait photographer.

I was born in 1987 in Habana - capital of Cuba. In 1998, I moved with my mum to Vienna - Austria. Nine years later I started to travel around the world.

Photography - especially black and white was always a passion of mine and still is!

I started late with photography. At the age of 26 I bought my first compact camera. I was so fascinated from the first moment on, that I couldn't stop taking pictures and I photographed everything my eye saw - especially my son. That's when my fascination for portrait photography started, when I saw how beautiful and interesting a face is. How a face can change day to day, how you can see the soul in the eyes and the emotion in the facial expressions. How beautiful a smile is and how powerful a tear drop can be and to see the story of someone's life without telling it.

At the age of 29 I bought my first analog camera, from that moment I saw the world just in black and white. I saw things that I had never seen before in colour. I started taking my time before pressing the shutter of the camera and taking time to really see. Every single picture became unique. My focus in black and white became so big that I started to love Low Light Photography. So dark and yet so much information in the light.

When you travel so much as a photographer and minimalist it is not easy to take photographs analogously. So I decided to buy a digital camera again. From 2018 to 2019 I did a photography course at the Photo School Vienna. I wanted to learn how to work with Lightroom and to learn a little from the history of photography.

My goal is not to make a lot of money with my pictures or to be famous.

My goal, is to make art and help people with my photography. To share how I do see the world from my focus point and to create space for a dream, fantasy and to spread hope. To share a smile and love with my art.

Thank you.

Thank you for taking your time to read my story. Thank you for taking your time to look at my art and thank you to be there.
